With the rise of remote work, more people are burning incense as a way to refresh themselves. But when you actually try it, you'll notice there's surprisingly a lot of friction.
You search for the box of incense, set up the holder, then look for a lighter. Once it's lit, you have to be careful that the ash doesn't scatter everywhere.
"I want to relax with scent, but the preparation itself is stressful." To resolve that contradiction, TENT teamed up with Osaka-based metal fabrication company Yumoto Denki to develop "BINSCENT." It is a "small sanctuary" that holds every tool you need and can be carried anywhere.

BINSCENT is a coined word combining BIN (container) and SCENT.
At first glance, it's a beautiful aluminum cylinder. But inside, there's a surprising amount of functionality packed in.
Remove the lid on top, and it doubles as an incense holder (and an ash tray). Inside the container, you can store both your spare incense sticks and a lighter.
In other words, with this single object, you can instantly create a scented space anywhere in your home — or even on the road. The satisfaction of merging a scattered set of tools into a single block of metal is something any gadget lover will immediately understand.

It's not just a plain tube. Peer inside and you'll notice the bottom is cut at an angle.
- UX for easy retrieval: Angling the bottom causes the stored incense to fan out naturally in a radial pattern. This makes it smooth to pinch out a single stick with your fingertips.
- A lower center of gravity: The slope drops the center of gravity, providing the physical benefit of being harder to tip over.
- Aerospace-grade precision: Yumoto Denki, the manufacturer, are cutting professionals who also produce parts for rockets. The "smooth," sucking-tight fit between lid and body is so addictively satisfying that you'll want to open and close it forever.

The material is milled from a solid billet of aluminum.
It comes in two colors: "SILVER," which lets the raw beauty of the material shine, and "BLACK," with a matte, weighty finish. SILVER in particular develops fine scratches and a softer, dulled glow over time — the same kind of patina you'd love in a pair of well-worn jeans.
Unlike a molded plastic product, this is a piece that "won't be trash 100 years from now." Its presence — almost like an archaeological artifact — strongly stirs the desire to own it.

When BINSCENT sits on your desk, switching modes between work and rest becomes dramatically faster.
Open the lid, take out the lighter, light the incense. That sequence of motions becomes a ritual that flips your brain from "focus mode" to "break mode."
The cool tactile quality of aluminum sharpens the sight of the rising smoke. Sight, smell, and touch — all five senses come together to make you genuinely feel: "Right now, I'm resting." That's the kind of device this is.

This product belongs on the desk of people like these:
- People who struggle to switch modes: Anyone working from home whose boundary between "on" and "off" has gone blurry.
- Metal fetishists: Those who unconditionally fall for cold, high-precision metal products in the spirit of Apple's hardware.
- Minimalists: People who want to remove incense packaging and lighters from their field of view entirely.

So, what did you think?
BINSCENT is more than just an incense holder. It's a tool for instantly drawing an "invisible wall" of scent — a personal barrier — around yourself.
Slip this block of aluminum into your pocket and take it to the balcony, the bedroom, or a hotel room on a trip. The reassurance of being able to return to "your usual self" no matter where you are is what's packed into this small little tube.
