Every time summer arrives, we apply sunscreen and open our parasols. But somewhere in the back of our minds, don't we have our doubts? "Is this parasol really working?" "Just how much UV is this UV-cut glass actually blocking?"
UV rays are invisible. That's exactly why we feel uneasy. So why not visualize them?
The "UV METER," developed by Sunbarrier100—the brand behind fully light-blocking parasols—is a weapon for transforming vague UV protection into a physical "data war."

The UV METER is, as its name suggests, a device that measures the intensity of UV rays.
The development team is seriously hardcore. Sales are handled by Sunbarrier100, a brand that stakes its reputation on complete light blockage (100% light-blocking rate). Manufacturing is done by Yaguchi Electronics Industry, an R&D-driven company in Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture, that produces medical devices and other equipment. And the design is by our beloved TENT.
What these three companies came together to create is a machine for proving "zero." Typical simple checkers display readings using a "UV Index (Strong/Medium/Weak)," but this device shows precise numerical values in "μW/cm² (microwatts)." This brutally and accurately exposes the difference between "mostly blocked (low values)" and "completely blocked (a value of zero)."

At first glance, it looks like an Apple TV remote or perhaps a sleek piece of beauty tech. There's none of the "ruggedness" you'd typically expect from a measuring instrument.
- One-Button UI: There's just a single button on the side. Press it to start measuring; release it to hold the reading. It automatically powers off after 30 seconds. It's so intuitive you don't even need a manual.
- A Sensor That Takes Aim: A high-sensitivity sensor is hidden inside the white dome at the tip. Point it at the sun to see the current reading, or point it at the underside of your parasol to measure how well it shields you.
- Functional Beauty You Can Carry: It has a strap hole, so you can hang it from your parasol handle or your bag. It weighs just 20g. The design fits right in even in a cosmetics pouch.

Once you have this meter in hand, everything around town starts catching your attention.
"Wait, does my car's UV-cut glass actually let through quite a bit?" "The shade under trees has surprisingly high readings." "My three-year-old parasol—is it still performing?"
You'll find yourself holding it up to anything and everything, your mood rising and falling with each reading. There's a kind of joy to it, like checking the stats on new equipment in an RPG. And the moment the reading drops squarely to "0" beneath a Sunbarrier100 parasol, an overwhelming sense of security washes over you—and your trust in the brand turns into outright conviction.

This product is, of course, for people who want to protect their skin—but it'll really hit home with data-loving geeks.
- Beauty Enthusiasts: Those who want to take physical UV defense beyond simply "applying sunscreen."
- STEM Gadget Lovers: Those who delight in measuring invisible numbers and hacking their environment.
- People Wondering Whether to Replace Their Parasol: Those who want to objectively assess the lifespan of their current parasol (i.e., the decline of its UV-blocking performance).

So, what did you think?
The UV METER isn't a cosmetic product. And yet, it may protect your skin better than any luxury serum.
"UV is strong today, so I'll go with a thicker jacket." "The window seats at this café are dangerous—let's sit at the back."
Changing your behavior based on facts rather than feelings. That, perhaps, is the smartest UV protection in the modern age.
