Since its founding in 1932, LEGO bricks have always been a "silent toy." Children would make their own sound effects—"vroom," "kaboom!"—with their mouths, playing out stories inside their heads. But in March 2026, that history is set to change. Unveiled at CES 2026, the new system that stunned the world: "LEGO Smart Play."
The star of the show is the "Smart Brick"—identical in size to an ordinary 2×4 stud brick. But packed inside this tiny piece of plastic are an accelerometer, a speaker, a light, and Bluetooth. There are no switches, no cords. Just pick it up and shake it to wake it, and the brick begins to "talk" in response to your movements.

In recent years, LEGO has pushed forward with "app-connected" play, but the defining feature of Smart Play is that it's "No Screen." There's no need to stare at a smartphone or tablet while you play. The technology stays completely behind the scenes.
For example, build an X-Wing set, hold it in your hand, and mimic flying it through the air—the brick detects the tilt and emits a "vrooom" flight sound. Dive sharply and the sound changes; land it, and you'll hear the engine power down. The kind of "make-believe play" children have always done unconsciously is now expanded in real time by technology. Their eyes stay fixed on the brick in their hands, while immersion only deepens.

Smart Bricks don't just make sounds—they "recognize" their surroundings. Bring a part embedded with the newly developed "Smart Tags" close, and the brick can tell whether it's an "engine" or a "blaster."
What's more, chips are now embedded in the minifigures too. Place Luke Skywalker in the cockpit and it speaks in Luke's voice; put R2-D2 inside and you'll hear his iconic electronic beeps. Even the same vehicle reacts differently depending on who's riding. This is, in effect, an RPG (role-playing game) built out of physical bricks.

"Changing batteries is a hassle." "Cables get in the way." To eliminate those frustrations, Smart Bricks are completely wireless by design. There isn't even a charging port. Like an electric toothbrush, you simply place them on a dedicated charging tray and they power up.
By doing away with any holes or switches that would mar the brick's appearance, they blend seamlessly with regular bricks. "Making you forget the technology is even there"—that was the goal LEGO set out to achieve. With 30 minutes of charging delivering several hours of playtime, the stamina is also engineered to keep concentration unbroken.
| Summary: Launching March 1st. Step Into the Star Wars Universe

The launch lineup will roll out from the "LEGO Star Wars" series. The price tag runs higher than ordinary sets, but the real value lies in the "boost to imagination."
A plain lump of plastic transforms into a living companion. This new experience of toys that "play back" will captivate not only digital-native children but also the adults who once made sound effects with their own mouths, drawing them back to childhood. Soon to hit shelves, these magical bricks may change what's inside the toy box forever.
